If heading to the Cape Winelands, here are a few amazing experiences to consider:

Head to Babylonstoren, one of the oldest working Cape Dutch farms and certainly one of the most abundant. The garden produces more than 300 varieties of plants which are either edible, or have a certain medicinal value. These are used in two of Babylonstoren’s farm-to-fork restaurants, where guests can delight in a fresh and truly experiential meals. Enjoy a garden tour, a wine tasting or a Turkish bath at their beautiful ‘living’, garden spa.

For those serious about wine and food, head to Delaire Graff for a tasting accompanied by the most picturesque views in the winelands, or the Table at De Meye Farm for the most sought-after and utterly delicious kitchen garden experience, where only locally sourced and pasture-raised ingredients feature on the menu. Expect comforting country food, served on quirky antique platters under the shade of the trees.

Potter around Franschhoek’s high street and visit one of the many art galleries. Sample savory jams at the various farm delis, buy some coffee from a local roaster and marvel at the magnificent Cape Dutch architecture and surrounding mountain ranges.

And what about the little ones?

Ever seen a pig paint using a brush and a canvas? Neither had we! Prepare to be tickled pink as you watch Pigcasso produce her finest artwork, right before your eyes on her farm in Franschhoek.

The Franschhoek wine tram is a fun day out for the family, and there are a number of routes on offer that weave through the landscape stopping at various wine farms. This makes tastings ideal for the adults, and of course children love the hop on and hop off element of seeing the countryside in this unique way.

Fairview Wine Farm is a superb option for the family, and a highlight here is the goat tower where several happy goats live and roam. The owners of the farm regard them as their little mascots and love them dearly, and have even created a range of wines after them.
