TrueSafari Moments

Zanzibar
zanzibar

The fifty islands of the Zanzibar archipelago lie in the aquamarine waters of the Indian Ocean under the equatorial sun. Here you will find tiny deserted outcrops alongside the larger and more populated islands of Zanzibar and Pemba. The beaches are stunning with powdery white sand shaded by palm trees and are the perfect place to end your safari holiday and wind down.

The sea is shallow, but venture further out into the sparkling, turquoise water and you will find coral reefs for great snorkelling and diving. The larger islands are lush and highly fertile and everywhere the air is suffused with the aroma of fruit and spices; it's an intoxicating, exotic atmosphere.

At sunset Zanzibar becomes even more magical when hundreds of silent dhows set sail for the night with their waving sails tinted pink by the giant red sunsets.

Monsoon winds blowing from Arabia and India have led traders to these islands for over 2000 years. In Zanzibar’s Stone Town labyrinth alleys lead to sultan’s palaces, thick stone walls and intricately carved doors. Here you can wander through the small streets full of memories from Zanzibar’s Arabic past. The history of Zanzibar has largely been determined by sultans, spices and slavery and rich and complicated history can be felt when walking through Stone Town.

If you’d like to find out more about Zanzibar we’d love you to contact us or have a look at the Zanzibar Lodges page.
