Victoria Falls

victoriafallsWhen visiting Zambia or Malawi, one can’t leave out a visit to Victoria Falls in Zambia.

The whole of the Zambezi River pours over this incredible cataract which is 50% wider than Niagara Falls and over twice as high.

Known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders), the Victoria Falls are named after Queen Victioria by David Livingstone, the Scottish explorer who became the first European to see them in 1855.

There are higher and wider falls in the world but none larger, Victoria is the largest sheet of falling water in the world.

Visited from the local town of Livingstone, the falls are surrounded by incredibly diverse animal and plant life and a beautiful series of gorges. There is also a 111 metre bungee jump from a nearby bridge and unbelievable rafting on the Zambezi River.
