TrueSafari Moments

Chimp/gorilla trekking

gortrackingTrueAfrica organizes trips to Rwanda/Uganda for gorilla trekking. Getting face-to-face with these magnificent creatures in the wild is a real eye-opener.

This once-in-a-lifetime experience isn’t cheap but you have the satisfaction of knowing that the fees you pay to the relevant National Park authorities help towards conservation of these wonderful animals.

You can see silverback and mountain gorillas in Parc National des Volcans in the Ruhengeri district at the border of Uganda and Rwanda and Bwindi and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda. See our Rwanda/Uganda lodges page for the lodges we like to use in our itineraries.

Chimp trekking can be done in Tanzania at Gombe Stream National Park, where Jane Goodall did her famous research and in Mahale National Park at the borders of Lake Tanganyika. See the Tanzania lodges page for a list of lodges we tend to use in our chimp-trekking itineraries.

Chimp and gorilla trekking are ideally combined with a safari in the northern part of Tanzania. Both ape trekking experiences are a life-changing experience! It’s incredible to see the ‘human’ behavior of these animals in the wild.

Dian Fossey is well known for her study of the gorillas in Parc National des Volcans, Rwanda, which was beautifully captured in the movie Gorillas in the Mist (based on her autobiography).
For more info about Dian, see www.gorillafund.org

Jane Goodall is famous for her study of the chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania.
For more info about Jane, see www.janegoodall.org

If you’d like to learn more about how a TrueAfrica ape trekking trip is arranged, please contact us and we’ll be happy to explain the whole process.
