Joris Smit was born in 1973 in Amstelveen, the Netherlands. He took a law degree at the University of Amsterdam and afterwards worked for a short time as a lawyer. Before Joris came to Africa he worked as an account manager for a recruitment firm.

Adventure, travelling and sports run through his veins. In 2001 he made a half year trip through South America. His love for Africa started in 1996 when he travelled through Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa after hearing great African stories from his mother.

He always remembered the smell of the bush and this brought him back to the continent on many occasions. Now Joris has followed his dream to live and work in Africa by coming to work for TrueAfrica. He loves the friendly and ever smiling Tanzanians, while a group of elephants brings a big smile to his own face!
